4OUR Women is a transformative two-day weekend series celebrating the complexity and humanity of Black women. The program seeks to challenge the “Strong Black Woman” narrative, which has historically contributed to the mental health struggles of Black women, by providing a space for healing through art, culture, and community.
TALENT LINE UPProGRAM INSPIRATIONThe 4OUR WOMEN program draws inspiration from Nina Simone’s iconic song Four Women, which introduces listeners to four archetypes of Black womanhood:
Our program seeks to challenge the “Strong Black Woman” narrative presented in these archetypes by encouraging the composition and performance of new musical and poetic works that deliver a transformative message: Our Message Black women have carried the weight of history and progress. Their contributions are evident in historical archetypes and shared lived experiences. If Earth were a classroom, Black women are the overachievers—waiting for others to catch up. Now, the next chapter calls for rest as an essential practice for Black women—one that advances not only their well-being but also the collective progress of all people. Black women have aced the assignment, and moving forward, rest is the key to restoring balance. What Rest Does Not Mean:
